Y&R Spoilers May 22: Patty Williams Frees Matt Clark, Then Betrays Him to Victor Newman
Patty Williams frees a tied-up Matt Clark from Phyllis on May 22’s Y&R, then calls Victor Newman to betray him. Is Patty playing everyone? Spoilers inside.

PATTY WILLIAMS FREES MATT CLARK, THEN HANDS HIM STRAIGHT TO VICTOR NEWMAN
TL;DR: On May 22’s Young and the Restless, Patty Williams frees a tied-up Matt Clark from Phyllis Summers, but after he refuses to trust her, she calls Victor Newman and betrays him.
What Happens to Matt Clark on Y&R?
Yes, Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) gets free from Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) on the May 22 episode of Young and the Restless, but his rescue comes wrapped in a nasty surprise. Earlier in the week, Phyllis cracked Matt Clark over the head, tied him up with bed sheets, gagged him, and snapped a proof of life photo to dangle in front of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). For a beat, it looked like Matt Clark was completely trapped. Then Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) slipped into the picture and changed the whole game.
Patty bribed a maid at the GCAC to let her into the suite, found Matt Clark bound on the floor, and untied him before Phyllis could return with Nick. She told him Phyllis was only using him as a bargaining chip to wriggle out of her own criminal charges. For one strange moment, Patty looked like the only person in Genoa City willing to treat Matt Clark like an actual human being instead of a prize to be traded.

Why Does Patty Turn on Matt Clark?
Patty Williams turns on Matt Clark the second he refuses to trust her. On the May 22 Young and the Restless, Matt Clark tells Patty he does not believe a word she says and wants to leave town for good. He even admits he is not sure he wants his memories back at all. That rejection is all it takes to flip the switch.
The moment Matt walks away, Patty picks up her phone and dials Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), telling the Newman patriarch she heard he is hunting for Matt Clark. It is a stunning betrayal. One minute Patty is playing guardian angel, the next she is serving Matt up to the most dangerous man in town. Given Patty Williams‘ long history of fixating hard and then lashing out when she feels scorned, this cold flip fits her pattern like a glove.
What This Means for Phyllis and Nick
Phyllis Summers loses her only leverage the instant Matt Clark walks out that door. She had been holding him as her ticket to getting her fraud charges dropped, courtesy of DA Christine Romalotti (Lauralee Bell). Now Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) is in her ear telling her it is time to accept defeat and hand Newman Enterprises back. With no Matt Clark and no deal left to make, Phyllis is officially cornered.
Nick is in just as deep. He has been buying street drugs and feeding a dangerous relapse while trying to cut a secret deal with Phyllis behind Victor‘s back. Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) even steps up and offers to be Nick‘s sponsor. But with Patty handing Matt Clark straight to Victor, Nick‘s plan to deal with Matt on his own terms just went up in smoke.
What’s Next for Patty and Matt Clark?
Could this betrayal blow up in Patty‘s face? Don’t be surprised if Matt Clark‘s missing memories come roaring back at the worst possible moment, flipping the tables on everyone who tried to use him. Given Patty Williams has burned bridges with dangerous men before, history says this little alliance was never built to last.
Don’t be surprised if Victor weaponizes Matt Clark against Phyllis and Nick alike. And keep one eye on Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun), Matt Clark‘s estranged wife, who is now tangled up with Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) and still carrying guilt over leaving Matt for dead. If Matt Clark gets his memory back, more than one Genoa City secret is about to come crashing down. Don’t miss our latest The Young and the Restless spoilers for more twists and turns.
