Just when you thought Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) had FINALLY learned from her mistakes… NOPE! The redheaded firecracker has done it again, and this time? She’s sabotaged what could have been the most lucrative corporate takeover in Genoa City history!
I’m still shaking my head at what went down. Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) — yes, THAT Cane who’s been MIA for six years — returned to town as the mysterious billionaire “Aristotle Dumas” with a master plan to take down the Newmans AND the Abbotts. He needed insiders. He needed people with axes to grind. He needed… well, apparently he needed anyone BUT Phyllis!
What Happens to Phyllis After Destroying Cane’s Alliance?
Phyllis is left completely isolated and devastated after Cane dissolved their partnership on August 27. Her ex-husband Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) had to run damage control with her because she was so shocked by losing her strategic foothold. The woman who thought she was about to reclaim her power in Genoa City? She’s now more alone than ever!
Here’s what kills me — she had ONE JOB. Just one! Follow the plan, gather intel, don’t go rogue. But when has Phyllis EVER been able to follow someone else’s lead?
According to my sources, on August 22, Cane gave Phyllis her first assignment. Simple enough, right? WRONG! By August 27 — that’s less than a WEEK, people — the entire operation was dead in the water. Why? Because our girl couldn’t resist “overplaying her hand” as the September 5 spoilers explicitly stated.
Does Victor Newman Know About Phyllis’s Betrayal?
Yes, Victor Newman is fully aware that Phyllis sabotaged Cane’s operation and is using it to his advantage. The Mustache was already ten steps ahead (when isn’t he?), but Phyllis basically handed him the victory on a silver platter!
Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) saw through Cane’s “Aristotle Dumas” facade from day one. He was the FIRST to figure out the billionaire’s true identity and exposed him at his own chateau in France! Classic Victor power move. But here’s where it gets juicy — Victor didn’t even need to destroy the alliance himself. He just applied pressure and waited for Phyllis to self-destruct.
And self-destruct she did! Spectacularly!
Why Did Phyllis Go Rogue Against Cane’s Orders?
The evidence points to Phyllis’s massive ego and desperate need to prove herself as the reasons she went rogue. On August 19, she was already giving Cane “unsolicited advice” — red flag number one! The woman simply cannot be a team player. She always thinks she’s the smartest person in the room.
Let me paint you a picture of what probably went down (and trust me, knowing Phyllis’s thirty-year history of chaos, this is EXACTLY her M.O.):
Cane gives her a simple intelligence-gathering mission. Maybe some light corporate espionage. Nothing major. But does Phyllis stick to the plan?
Of course not!
She likely thought, “This is beneath me! I’ll show Cane what I’m REALLY capable of!” And then — BOOM — she escalates everything, goes completely off-script, and probably trips every legal and corporate alarm in the process. No wonder Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) had to “take a risk” for her on September 2. The woman needed serious legal intervention!
What’s Next for Phyllis, Cane, and Victor?
Could this mean Phyllis will try to flip sides and work with Victor? Don’t be surprised if she throws both Cane AND Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) under the bus to save herself! Given her history of betraying literally EVERYONE she’s ever worked with — from drugging Danny Romalotti to faking her own death to frame Diane Jenkins — switching teams is totally on brand.
This likely leads to Phyllis becoming even more desperate and dangerous. A cornered Phyllis is a Phyllis who makes catastrophically bad decisions. Remember when she murdered Jeremy Stark with scissors? Yeah, that level of unhinged.
As for Cane? His six-year master plan just went up in smoke thanks to trusting the wrong person. He thought he could control Phyllis like a chess piece, but she’s more like a hand grenade with the pin already pulled!
THE PHYLLIS SUMMERS CYCLE STRIKES AGAIN!
Y’all, I’ve been watching this show for decades, and the Phyllis pattern NEVER changes:
- She gets an opportunity
- She thinks she knows better than everyone
- She goes behind her allies’ backs
- Everything explodes
- She plays the victim
Rinse and repeat!
What absolutely KILLS me is that Cane should have known better! Did he not do ANY research on her history? She’s betrayed:
- Jack Abbott (multiple times!)
- Nick Newman (also multiple times!)
- Victor Newman (when she worked for him)
- Nikki, Victoria, and Sharon (remember the J.T. cover-up?)
- Her own children when it suited her!
Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) is probably somewhere laughing her head off. Her ex-husband thought he could trust PHYLLIS SUMMERS? The woman who ran down Paul and Christine with a car? Who faked her own death? Who blackmailed Brad Carlton?
Talk about a fatal error in judgment!
