PHYLLIS SUMMERS LOSES MATT CLARK BEFORE THE DEAL IS DONE

TL;DR: On Friday, May 15,ย Young and the Restlessย hands us Phyllis Summers with the biggest bargaining chip of her career and one small problem: Matt Clark has walked out of his suite. She’s still trying to play hardball with Victor, Nick is back to buying pills in the park, and Lily Winters is finally home with Cane.

Phyllis Summers Brokers a Deal at the Bar Then Walks Into an Empty Suite

On Friday, Phyllis Summers is sitting at the GCAC bar with her lawyer Michael Baldwin and her best friend Lauren Fenmore, refusing to back down. The offer stays the offer. Matt for her freedom. Newman stays where it is. Michael warns her Victor will never accept this. Lauren begs her to look at the big picture. Phyllis Summers does not negotiate from a position of weakness even when her position is, in fact, weakness. We respect it. We are also screaming.

She gets up and heads to the suite to check on her golden goose. She opens the door. The bed is empty. Matt is GONE. Phyllis stands in the doorway like a woman who has been robbed in slow motion. The shock. The HORROR. Then she pivots toward the foyer and runs directly into Nick Newman, who corners her on the spot and demands she hand Matt Clark over to him personally. He’s going to convince Christine to drop the charges. He’ll handle it. She cannot tell Nick what she has discovered because the second she does, the whole house of cards turns to rubble. The cliffhanger of all cliffhangers. Y&R writers, you ATE.

Where do you think Matt has gone and how long until Phyllis loses every card she’s holding? Send us your hottest Friday cliffhanger theories to amber@soapoperamagazine.com and we might publish them on the site!

Earlier, Phyllis Played Personal Shopper and Concierge for Matt Clark

Hours before the suite vanishing act, Phyllis swept in with new clothes (Matt politely admits “not really his style”), food, and a burner phone to keep in touch. Matt asks why she’s doing all this. She says she’s a good person. Sir. SIR. He thanks her anyway. He admits he is having flashes of unfamiliar faces, including one guy who looks like he peaked in high school. (Reader, that is Noah.) He jokes about strolling over to the Newman place. Phyllis tells him absolutely not.

Matt confesses he hopes that when his memory returns, he will find out there is someone who cares about him. Phyllis softens for half a second. Lauren is right. He IS getting to her. Phyllis tells him to hang on a little longer, that she really wants to help him, and that she has to run. He thanks her for being a friend. Matt thinking Phyllis Summers is his friend is the most unintentionally hilarious sentence on the canvas this week. The man does not even know he is currency.

Adam, Nick, and Victor Strategize at the Ranch and Pray Nick Stays Calm

Earlier at the Newman Ranch, Adam Newman and Nick chat about Phyllis. They’ve been tracking her. They have no proof she has Matt. They speculate about the amnesia and whether Phyllis is manipulating him. Victor Newman joins the boys and announces that Phyllis is stalling. Nick begs his father to take the deal and resolve this NOW. Adam disagrees and thinks they need to game it out. Nick refuses to wait. He storms off. Victor turns to Adam and confides that he told Nick the vigilante plan was off the table. Both men hope Nick listens. Reader, Nick is not listening.

Nick Buys Pills at the Chancellor Park Cafรฉ Like He Has Nothing to Lose

In case anyone was wondering whether the Newman heir was going to handle his sobriety on a Friday, the answer is a resounding no. Nick stops at the Chancellor Park Cafรฉ, takes a pill from “some dude” who promptly bolts, and pops another one before walking into his father’s house. The man is not detoxing. The man is RELAPSING. Victor told Nick everyone was concerned about his drug use. Victor was being generous. We need to stage an intervention and we need it by Monday.

Lily Winters Cares for Cane on the Cane Train and Kisses Him on the Mouth

Across town, Lily Winters gets Cane Ashby settled at home after his stem cell procedure. He whines about feeling like he got hit by a truck. She teases him for whining. He asks her to take his temperature and peel some grapes. They reminisce about parenting sick kids together and how she was always “the queen of concern.” He tells her he is relieved she does not hate him so much anymore.

Lily admits she isn’t sure how she feels, but the man she fell for is not gone. Cane tells her if she believes everything will work out, it will. He gives her permission to leave for Malcolm. Then she leans in. She KISSES him. The Cane Train chugs back into the station, ladies and gentlemen, and there is no getting off it now.

Holden, Claire, and a Visit From His Mother in New York

In New York, Holden Novak thanks Claire Newman for coming. His mother Stephanie sweeps in to announce Cane’s stem cells are on the way. She steps out to find out when Holden can see Malcolm Winters. Holden confesses he is terrified of losing the father he barely got to meet. Claire reminds him that she came around to her own family eventually and that he might too. They kiss.

Then Lily calls to thank Holden for being there. Touching. Genuine. Tender. Y&R is asking us to feel things in five storylines on a Friday and yes, fine, we will. But also Phyllis Summers is officially having the worst day of her week and we cannot wait for Monday. Buckle in.

Whose Friday cliffhanger has you screaming the loudest? Phyllis losing Matt right before the deal? Nick falling off the wagon in a public park? Or Lily finally kissing Cane on that Cane Train? Sound off because we need to talk!
