JACK ABBOTT BROUGHT NIKKI TO THE BRAINSTORM AND GOT CAUGHT

TL;DR: Diane Jenkins asked for space on The Young and the Restless. Jack Abbott responded by calling, texting, and sending gifts until he apparently hit a wall and decided what this situation really needed was a brainstorming dinner with Nikki Newman at the Genoa City Athletic Club where Diane is currently living. Jack and Nikki put their heads together and produced exclusively dumb solutions. Victor Newman walked in. Then Diane walked in separately. Both of them witnessed the dinner. Jack Abbott is getting dumber by the week and he brought reinforcements.

Let Us Start With What Diane Actually Asked For

Diane Jenkins asked for space. That was the request. Space. Time. Room to process the yacht situation and the Patty situation and everything that has happened to her marriage in recent weeks. A reasonable request from a woman who has been through something genuinely complicated and needs to think.

Jack Abbott responded by calling her. Then texting her. Then sending gifts. His interpretation of space is apparently a sustained campaign of contact that would make most people’s phones vibrate off a table. He did not give Diane space. He gave Diane the opposite of space. He gave Diane a full court press of communication that has been going on long enough that he has apparently exhausted his own ideas and hit a wall.

So Jack called Nikki Newman.

For dinner. At the Genoa City Athletic Club. Where Diane is currently living.

We would like to understand the thought process. We genuinely would. We have been thinking about it and we cannot find it.

The Brainstorm, Presented Without Comment

Jack and Nikki sat down at the GCAC. They put their heads together. They applied their collective wisdom to the problem of how Jack Abbott wins back Diane after the yacht situation. Two intelligent people. One table. One problem. Unlimited dumb solutions apparently.

We do not know exactly what solutions they generated. What we know is that the brainstorm produced nothing useful enough to change the trajectory of Jack’s situation and everything visible enough to make it significantly worse. Jack and Nikki sitting together at Diane’s hotel, working on a plan to fix Jack’s marriage, is the kind of thing that sounds reasonable in theory and is catastrophically ill-considered in practice.

Diane walked in.

Victor Newman walked in separately.

Both of them witnessed the dinner. Both of them hate the Jack and Nikki friendship with a passion that has never required explanation or justification. Victor hates it because it represents everything he cannot control about Nikki’s life. Diane hates it because she is currently living in the same building as Nikki, while her marriage to Jack is falling apart, and finding her husband brainstorming with his best friend at her hotel is not the energy she needed today.

Jack and Nikki came up with dumb solutions. The universe provided an immediate and thorough critique.

The Dumb Contest Has Multiple Contestants

Here is where this situation gets genuinely interesting.

Jack Abbott is getting dumber by the week. We said it. We meant it. We are standing by it. Ignoring a request for space. Choosing the one restaurant inside the building where his estranged wife is sleeping. Brainstorming with Nikki Newman and producing exclusively bad ideas. This is a pattern, not an accident.

What is also interesting is that Diane may be about to make it a two-person contest.

Diane is furious at Jack. Victor hates Jack. On paper, that shared grievance looks like an alliance waiting to happen. Diane and Victor conspiring together against Jack and Nikki. Two people with significant motivation and significant resources deciding that the enemy of their enemy is their friend.

Here is the problem with that plan. Victor Newman always wins. Always. He has been playing this game longer than anyone in Genoa City, and he has never once entered an alliance that did not ultimately serve his own interests above everyone else’s. Diane conspiring with Victor is not Diane using Victor as a weapon. That is Diane handing Victor everything he needs and calling it a strategy.

Jack Abbott ignored his wife’s request for space and held a brainstorming dinner at her hotel that produced dumb solutions and an audience of exactly the wrong people. Diane may be about to respond by making a deal with the most dangerous man in Genoa City.

This is what happens on Y&R. Everyone gets dumber together. Victor just watches and wins.

Do you think Diane would be dumb enough to conspire with Victor Newman against Jack Abbott? And who is currently winning the dumb contest in Genoa City? Sound off below because this comment section is about to have very strong opinions!
