LI FINNEGAN BLAMES HERSELF, BUT STEFFY SAID SURROGACY FIRST

TL;DR: Li Finnegan is stunned by Steffy’s surrogacy, and spoilers say she never thought the surrogacy option she once raised with Daphne would come back on her own son. But the July episode tells a different story: Li said there were options, and Steffy was the one who said “surrogacy.”

Finn Took Steffy’s Secret Straight to His Mother

The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers for Wednesday, October 21 put Li Finnegan in shock. She is stunned by what Steffy Forrester Finnegan did, and she has to decide how to advise her son.

She heard it a day early. On Tuesday, October 20, John “Finn” Finnegan found his mother at the hospital and opened with “You’re not going to believe it.” Then he told her that while he was away at his medical conference, Steffy became the surrogate for Carter Walton and Daphne Rose Walton. Li was dumbfounded.

That came one day after Steffy’s confession, and our recap of the night Steffy told Finn she is the surrogate has every beat. Now this week’s Bold and the Beautiful spoilers add a twist: guilt. The tease says Li feels for Daphne, but never imagined that surrogacy, an option she once put on the table, would land on Finn.

Should Li feel guilty at all? Tell me what you think at amber@soapoperamagazine.com.

Li Gave Daphne the Worst News of Her Life in July

Here is the history that makes Li squirm. On the July 14 episode, Li was covering because Daphne’s own doctor had a family emergency. She was the one who had to say it: “Daphne, I’m very sorry. I have to give you some bad news.” Premature ovarian insufficiency meant Daphne could not have children.

The next day, Daphne fell apart at the hospital with Li and Steffy beside her. Li tried to tell her there were alternatives. Steffy offered her frozen eggs, and Daphne cried, “I want my own child.”

Li never stopped caring about that patient. In September, Li Finnegan told Finn that Daphne had emailed her, ready to move forward with a surrogate. So Li knows Daphne’s file, and she knows how long the road to a surrogate pregnancy is supposed to take.

Did Li Suggest Surrogacy to Daphne on Bold and the Beautiful?

Not in so many words. In the July 15 scene, Li told Daphne there were alternatives, and Steffy was the one who listed in vitro, surrogacy or adoption. If Li is beating herself up on Wednesday, she is shouldering a word that came out of her daughter-in-law’s mouth.

That is the irony nobody is talking about. Steffy said “surrogacy” to Daphne months before she needed it as a cover. Now she is hiding a pregnancy inside it.

Li’s Real Guilt Goes Back to Monaco

Li Finnegan has carried this kind of guilt before, and it is the kind that should worry Steffy. On the August 31 episode, Li realized Sheila Carter, Finn’s birth mother, had seen his flight details on her open laptop and followed him to Monaco. Li blamed herself for the damage to Finn’s marriage. Finn refused to let her carry it.

Monaco is where Steffy pulled off her wedding ring, and Steffy’s ring slip points straight back to that week. Days later came her night with Carter. Li thinks she opened the door to Sheila. She has no idea what walked through it after.

Two Doctors and a Calendar by Friday

Carter’s last words to Steffy on Tuesday were “No one can know the truth.” Too late for that. Thursday, Steffy and Carter rush to the hospital. Friday, Finn and Li investigate Steffy’s pregnancy, the two-doctor problem Steffy has dreaded for weeks.

Do the math Li can do in her sleep. Steffy’s story puts the baby at about five weeks on Wednesday. Counting from her August night with Carter, she is about 11 weeks. My gut tells me Li Finnegan spots that gap before Finn does, because guilt makes a mother look harder. What she does with it is the real question.

Will Li protect Steffy or tell Finn everything she finds? Make your prediction in the comments.

Li’s shock, Thursday’s hospital rush and Friday’s investigation are all in the full two-week Bold and the Beautiful preview.

Li Is Carrying the Wrong Guilt Over Steffy’s Surrogacy

Our call: Li owes nobody an apology. She told a heartbroken patient there were options. Steffy and Carter turned one of them into a lie, and Li is about to feel bad for the wrong sin.

So does Li protect the mother of her grandson, or the son she once secretly nursed back to life? Pick a side on our Facebook page.
