On Friday, September 25, Curtis warned his cellmate Jenz Sidwell that a hit was coming and begged him to take protective custody. Sidwell refused. Three inmates cornered him in the cell, Curtis told them enough was enough, and both men went down. Now the blame is rolling straight toward Sonny Corinthos.

The attackers made sure of that. Before they walked out, they left a calling card: “Sonny Corinthos owes you this. And more.” Sonny has spent weeks insisting he is out of the mob and going legit through the piers auction, so those words could not have landed at a worse time. In Port Charles, a name dropped at a crime scene is either a confession or a frame.

Curtis Lands in the ICU as His Family Rushes to His Side

Both men are rushed to General Hospital next week, and Curtis gets the worst of it. He lands in the ICU with Jordan Ashford, his daughter Trina Robinson, Portia Robinson and Stella Henry frantic at his bedside. Sidwell, who begged for help the day before the attack, ends up in a hospital bed of his own. The good news, if early spoilers hold, is that Curtis pulls through in time. The bad news is everything that happens around him while he is out cold.

The timing is cruel. Portia brought their baby son, Desmond, to Pentonville on September 23, and the two of them finally found some peace as co-parents. Jordan kissed Curtis goodbye before he reported to prison in August. Trina has spent weeks blaming Brook Lynn Quartermaine for every day her father spends behind bars. Now they all watch him fight for his life because he tried to protect a man who took hostages at the Jerome gallery in July.

Justine Turner and Dante Falconeri Are Forced to Pick a Side

The evidence piles up fast, and it lands on the desk of the one prosecutor who cannot afford it. Justine Turner was the prosecutor on Curtis’s case, she is running for district attorney with Jordan’s endorsement, and she is secretly seeing Sonny. On Friday, the two of them agreed to keep their romance quiet after Jordan caught them kissing on September 22. Spoilers say Justine confronts Sonny and demands the truth, and he insists he did not order the hit.

Dante Falconeri has it even worse. The acting police commissioner cannot investigate an attack pinned on his own father, so he steps away from the case over the conflict. That leaves the PCPD chasing Sonny without the one cop who knows exactly how his father thinks.

Did Sonny Corinthos Order the Attack on Curtis and Sidwell?

Nothing on screen proves he did, and one detail points the other way. On September 23, Sonny admitted he keeps an eye on the families of several Pentonville inmates in exchange for them keeping tabs on Sidwell, a setup we flagged when Sonny’s crown refused to come off. That same day, his associate Vito met with an inmate. Right after that visit, the inmate pulled Curtis aside and told him to find a reason not to be in his cell after lunch.

Read that again. The only warning Curtis got came from an inmate who had just met with Sonny’s man. If Sonny Corinthos ordered the beating, his own messenger also tried to keep Curtis out of the room. And hired muscle does not usually announce who is paying the bill.

Gio Palmieri Refuses to Believe His Grandfather Did It

Then there is Gio Palmieri. Sonny’s grandson cannot believe the man who once gave him a home would order a beating that nearly killed Trina’s father, and spoilers say he suspects Sonny Corinthos was framed. Gio is also the one person in this mess who can lean on Dante as a son. Don’t be surprised if he pushes his father to keep digging even after Dante has officially stepped aside.

My gut tells me Gio is onto something. Sonny is headed for a showdown with Drew Cain over the piers, and Ava Jerome vowed on Thursday to bring him down for good. A man with that many enemies makes a very convenient suspect. The real question is whether Justine is brave enough to look past the easy answer when her own secret is on the line.
