The first secret of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way Season 8 belongs to a couple fans already know. On premiere day, Oct. 4, 2026, TLC’s official @90dayfiance Instagram teased that Niles Valentine is hiding a life-changing plan from his wife, Matilda Nti. He’s moving to Ghana for good, and she thinks he’s just there for their anniversary.

For anyone checking the status first: Niles and Matilda are married, on screen and off. They tied the knot in Ghana on 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days Season 7, and no split has been reported. What’s changed is the plan for where they’ll live, and Matilda doesn’t know it yet.

What TLC Revealed About Niles’ Ghana Plan

TLC laid it all out in its Season 8 couple bio. “Niles and Matilda have been married for two years but continue to live on opposite sides of the world,” the network says. Niles, who lives in Mobile, Alabama, is heading back to Matilda’s hometown of Offinso, Ghana, “hoping to make amends with Matilda’s family and get their marriage back on track.”

Then comes the twist. “She thinks he’s coming for their anniversary, but he’s keeping a life-changing secret: this isn’t just a visit,” TLC says. “Niles plans to leave America behind and move to Ghana for good.”

The Promise Niles Made Matilda

The secret stings because of the promise that came before it. According to TLC, when Niles left Ghana after the wedding, he told Matilda he would bring her to America within five months. “Ongoing visa issues have prevented that from happening,” the network says.

Back then, the U.S. was always the destination. “I don’t know what will happen once I bring Matilda to live with me in the US, but sometimes family is what you make it and not necessarily what you are born into,” Niles said after the wedding. At the Season 7 Tell All, which wrapped in February 2025, he said the couple were still working on her visa. Two years into the marriage, the plan has flipped completely.

How Niles and Matilda Got Here

Their road has never been smooth. Niles and Matilda talked online for about two years before he flew to Ghana to meet her on Before the 90 Days. He proposed, then told her over dinner that he wanted to postpone the wedding. “I’m not okay at all. I feel like dying right now,” Matilda said.

They married anyway, in a traditional Ghanaian ceremony that aired Dec. 29, 2024. Niles’s parents didn’t attend, so Mr. and Mrs. Arc stood in as his parents. “You’re finally Mrs. Valentine,” Niles told his bride. He admitted the empty seats hurt. “I didn’t forget they were not there for the wedding. I am not going to pretend that I did not have some feelings about that,” he said.

Are Niles and Matilda Still Together?

Yes. On screen, The Other Way picks them up about two years into their marriage, still living apart. In real life, they were still married as of September 2026, when TLC announced their return, and neither has announced a split.

When Matilda was asked at the Tell All whether she married Niles to get to America, her answer was simple. “I love him for him,” she said. If that’s still true, a husband who moves to Ghana might be the best news she gets all season. Or it could be the worst way to find out.

What Happens When Matilda Finds Out

That’s the question hanging over the season. Matilda has spent two years waiting on a visa and a plane ticket, and she’s planning an anniversary, not a permanent houseguest. Don’t be surprised if the reveal lands harder than Niles expects, especially if her family hears it before she does.

Then there’s his mission to make amends with her family. Reading between the lines, Niles may want their blessing before he drops the news on his wife. My gut tells me Matilda won’t love finding out she was the last to know.

Niles Needs to Tell Matilda Before He Unpacks

Moving across the world for your wife is romantic. Hiding it from her is not. Niles already made one big promise he couldn’t keep, and Matilda deserves a say in the next chapter of her own marriage. The longer he waits, the more this looks like a surprise she never asked for.
