Where’s Reed? Y&R’s Victoria Newman Won’t Say Her Son Reed Hellstrom’s Name Out Loud

Young and the Restless fans haven’t seen Reed Hellstrom in years, and it’s awfully convenient while Victoria is sneaking around with Kyle.

REED HELLSTROM IS MISSING SO VICTORIA CAN DATE KYLE

TL;DR: Young and the Restless fans haven’t seen Reed Hellstrom since March 2020, and Victoria Newman never says his name. Funny timing, since she’s secretly hooking up with Kyle Abbott, who is closer in age to her son than to her. Throw in Claire, who can jet off anywhere with Holden but still hasn’t met her own brother, and the Y&R spoilers are one awkward family reunion away from a meltdown.

Reed Who?

Remember Reed Hellstrom? Victoria’s son with J.T. Hellstrom? He came back to Genoa City as a teenager in 2017, found himself through music, and then accidentally hit Nikki Newman with a car in bad weather. He confessed, left town for a music program, and that was pretty much that.

He was last on screen in March 2020. Over six years later, Victoria Newman acts like she never gave birth to him. No birthday shout-out, no phone call, not even a “how’s school, honey?”

Victoria’s Family Comes First, When It’s Convenient

This isn’t new. Victoria has always loved her family on her own schedule. Her kids get attention when it fits her calendar and her love life. When it doesn’t, they get shipped off to boarding school or handed to whoever is around.

Reed got the worst of it. His dad moved him to Washington as a kid, so he barely grew up with his mother in the first place. Then he came home, made one terrible mistake and disappeared again. Victoria didn’t chase him. She hasn’t mentioned him since.

Her family matters only at her convenience, and right now Reed is very inconvenient.

The Kyle Problem

Here’s why. Back in August, Victoria and Kyle Abbott kissed at Jabot while celebrating a Vibrante relaunch. Kyle locked the door, and the clothes came off. Victoria blamed “too much celebratory whiskey” and swore it was a one-time thing. Kyle said it was pretty great.

Now do the math. Kyle’s on-screen birth year is 2001. Reed’s is 2007. Victoria is fooling around with a man much closer to her son’s age than her own.

And Y&R knows how to age a kid when it wants a storyline. Kyle was a little boy in 2010 and a grown man by 2012. Reed Hellstrom got rapidly aged too, then got parked off screen like a car nobody wants to drive. One kid got a love life with Victoria. The other got a one-way ticket to music school.

Bring Reed Hellstrom home, and everybody at the dinner table does that math out loud. So Reed stays wherever he is. It’s easier for Victoria that way.

Claire Can Fly Anywhere but There

Then there’s Claire Newman, and Kyle is her ex. The Newmans treat Claire like the best thing since sliced bread. Victoria welcomed her with open arms, and she’s been folded into the family like she was there all along.

So why hasn’t she met Reed? Why hasn’t she even asked? When Claire met her younger siblings, Reed was nowhere in sight. She can fly off wherever with Holden Novak, but she can’t book one trip to meet her own brother?

Maybe Victoria likes it that way. One kid who dated Kyle is complicated enough. A second kid asking questions would be a disaster.

Should Reed come home and blow up Victoria’s secret? Tell us in the comments!

Bring Reed Home

Claire is back in town, and Victor Newman is about to give Victoria the third degree. The walls are closing in on her secrets anyway. Bring Reed Hellstrom back and let him walk in on Mom and Kyle. He’s a grown man now. He can handle it.

Victoria would have to explain her love life to her son, her daughter and her father in the same week. Honestly, that’s the most Newman family reunion we can think of.

Head to our Facebook page and tell us if Reed should come home.
