Beyond the Gates
GIVE THE MAN HIS EMMY! BTG’s Timon Kyle Durrett Is Up Against Mike Manning for Supporting Actor
Beyond the Gates stars Timon Kyle Durrett and Mike Manning are both up for Supporting Actor, so who takes the Daytime Emmy home?
TIMON KYLE DURRETT AND MIKE MANNING BATTLE FOR EMMY GOLD
TL;DR: Beyond the Gates has two men in the Daytime Emmy race for Outstanding Supporting Actor, and only one can win. Timon Kyle Durrett (Bill) and Mike Manning (Smitty) are both nominated, and the trophy gets handed out October 30. Smitty is awesome, but Bill is the reason half of us tune in. Catch up on the BTG spoilers before the big night.

Two BTG Men, One Trophy
Beyond the Gates didn’t stop at one head-to-head. After stacking the Lead Actress race with Anita Dupree and Dani Dupree, the show landed two of its men in the Supporting Actor category too. Bill Hamilton and Smitty are going for the same statue.
We love them both. But let’s not pretend this is a hard call. Bill is the one we’d riot over.
The show earned 15 nominations in its very first year, which tells you voters noticed what fans already knew. These two men are a big part of why.

Why Bill Hamilton Has to Win
Bill has his faults, and he has plenty of them. He cheats, he schemes, and he married a woman who spent months poisoning him. Somehow, you still can’t take your eyes off him.
That’s all Timon Kyle Durrett. This is one of those rare times a soap got the casting exactly right. Durrett plays Bill like a man who knows he’s the most interesting person in every room, because he is.
Love him, hate him, or love to hate him, Bill Hamilton is the most dynamic man in Fairmont Crest. He can be a jerk to his ex in one scene and break your heart with his daughter Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne in the next. That’s range.
Look at the year he had. His wife poisoned him for months, and Durrett played every stage of it, from cocky to weak to barely standing. Then he got stuck in an elevator with Dani during the crossover tornado, and the whole fandom lost its mind. Now he’s filing for divorce and about to find out exactly what Hayley Lawson’s been hiding. Nobody else on this show carries that much story.
Don’t Even Think About Recasting Him
Let’s get one thing straight, BTG. Bill doesn’t die, and Bill doesn’t get recast. If Timon walks out that door, a lot of us walk out with him.
Remember when the show recast Ted Richardson? Fans are still not over it, and that was a much smaller role. Losing Durrett would be ten times worse. There is no replacing this man.

Smitty Deserves Love Too
None of this is a knock on Mike Manning. Smitty is awesome. He’s the reporter who refuses to stop digging, even when the digging gets risky. His reporting put the plasma ring on the FBI’s radar, and that made him a target. Manning plays Smitty with heart, nerves, and a stubborn streak that makes you root for him every time.
And it’s gotten very dangerous. Heather Armstrong, the Impaler herself, sees Smitty as a loose end. Whether she’s trying to put him behind bars or in the ground, nobody has time for that. Smitty can’t die either, so Joey Armstrongbetter get his sister under control.
If Bill doesn’t take it home, Smitty should.

And If Neither BTG Man Wins?
The category is stacked with three Y&R nominees, and if it can’t be a BTG man, give it to Roger Howarth. Yes, we said it. Matt Clark is the man who raped Sharon Newman back in the day, and Howarth still made his return impossible to ignore. That’s how you know it’s good acting.
But that’s plan C, and we’re not planning on needing it. October 30 belongs to Bill Hamilton. Give the man his Emmy.
