Beyond the Gates
MAMA DRAMA! BTG’s Tamara Tunie and Karla Mosley Are Up for the Same Daytime Emmy
Beyond the Gates stars Tamara Tunie and Karla Mosley are both up for Lead Actress, so who takes the Daytime Emmy home?
TAMARA TUNIE AND KARLA MOSLEY GO HEAD-TO-HEAD FOR EMMY GOLD
TL;DR: Beyond the Gates scored 15 Daytime Emmy nominations in its very first year, and two of them landed in the same category. Tamara Tunie (Anita) and Karla Mosley (Dani) are both up for Outstanding Lead Actress, and they’re making history doing it. The trophy gets handed out October 30. Check the BTG spoilers while you wait, because one of these women needs to walk out with gold.

Mother and Daughter, Same Category
Most families fight over who’s hosting Thanksgiving. The Duprees are fighting over a Daytime Emmy. Anita Dupreeand Dani Dupree are nominated in the same category, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
This isn’t only a fun family face-off. It’s the first time two Black actresses have been nominated in the same Daytime Emmy category in the award’s 53-year history. Tamara Tunie and Karla Mosley earned that spot the hard way, with a brand-new show nobody was sure would last.
Fifteen nominations later, nobody’s doubting BTG now. Not bad for the first new daytime drama in 25 years.

Why Anita Dupree Deserves It
Tamara Tunie plays Anita like she owns the whole town, because she basically does. Anita Dupree is the matriarch who walks into a room, and every Dupree in it sits up straight. She’s controlling, she’s polished, and she’s usually right, which is the most annoying part.
What makes Tunie so good is that Anita never begs for sympathy, and you give it to her anyway. When Anita takes a stand, even the people who disagree with her end up thinking she has a point.
Look at the way she’s gone after Nicole Dupree Richardson’s marriage to Ted Richardson. You want to be mad at her for meddling, and then she opens her mouth, and you can’t argue with a single word. That’s not easy to pull off, and Tunie makes it look effortless.

Why Dani Dupree Deserves It
Karla Mosley has the harder job. Dani is the one who carries the mess. Her marriage to Bill Hamilton, her heartbreak, her mistakes, and her fight to keep her family together all land on her shoulders.
Mosley makes Dani’s worst choices feel human. You can yell at the TV over what Dani does and still root for her by the next commercial. That takes real talent, and she does it five days a week.
And let’s not forget the elevator. Dani and her ex-husband stuck in the dark during the crossover tornado could have been cheesy. Mosley made it messy, emotional and impossible to look away from. Whatever you think of Dani, you watched every second.
The Competition Isn’t Easy
Let’s be honest about the rest of the field. Phyllis Summers’ Michelle Stafford is a powerhouse who’s no stranger to Emmy night. Katie Logan’s Heather Tom has a shelf full of these already. Kristen DiMera’s Stacy Haiduk can do crazy better than anyone in daytime.
If neither Dupree wins, our money is on Phyllis. Genoa City’s favorite troublemaker never goes quietly, and Stafford brought it this year. We’d grumble, but we’d get over it.
But this should be BTG’s year. Anita or Dani, it honestly doesn’t matter which one. One of these women needs that trophy.

No Matter What, a Dupree Should Win
This is one of those rare races where losing isn’t really losing. Both of these women are amazing, and both will be cheering for each other no matter whose name gets called. That’s more than Anita Dupree and Dani can say on screen.
A win for either one would be a win for BTG, for the whole cast and for every fan who believed in a brand-new soap. Pour the champagne, Fairmont Crest. October 30 can’t come fast enough.
