NICK NEWMAN ADMITS HE’S STRUGGLING, THEN PHYLLIS DEMANDS TO KNOW WHERE MATT CLARK IS

TL;DR: Young and the Restless spoilers: Nick Newman tells Sharon he’s struggling on Wednesday, and on Thursday Phyllis gives him the third degree about Matt Clark. Our call: he keeps the address to himself, but Phyllis is the bigger threat to his secret.

Phyllis Wants Matt Clark’s Location One Day After Nick Admits He’s Struggling

These Young and the Restless spoilers set up the question fans have been asking since October: will Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) finally say where Matt Clark (Roger Howarth) is? CBS’s listing for Thursday, November 12, says Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) “gives Nick the third degree about Matt Clark’s whereabouts.” She wants answers, and previews say she won’t leave without them. No spoiler anywhere says what Nick tells her.

The timing is rough for him. On Wednesday, November 11, the listing reads “Sharon worries about Nick’s sobriety,” and in CBS’s weekly promo he tells Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) at Crimson Lights that he’s struggling and needs a favor from her. Nobody has said what the favor is. So Phyllis corners him a day after his toughest admission since rehab, and the rest of the week’s spoilers keep the pressure on.

Here’s how he got here. On October 28, Nick told Phyllis that Matt turned up at the ranch and checked into a facility. The next day Sharon found no clinic or hospital with any record of him, and Nick told her it was best she didn’t know and that she would never find him. She called him a liar. By October 30, Nick was telling both women to let it go, and Sharon and Phyllis teamed up to get the truth.

Will Nick finally talk, or is Phyllis wasting her breath? Write to our editor at amber@soapoperamagazine.com and tell us what you think.

Nick Has Kept Matt Clark’s Location to Himself Since October

He hasn’t budged since. On November 4, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) asked about Matt, and Nick told her he’d made sure Matt won’t be a problem anymore. He gave her no details. Matt himself hasn’t been seen on screen since October 16, so every word about him since has come secondhand. Even Roger Howarth’s Daytime Emmy win on October 30 came while his character was missing.

Nick’s recovery is the other half of this story. He came home from rehab on September 17. On October 6, a flashback showed him taking drugs off his unconscious dealer, Joe, and on October 14 he said he flushed them, which Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) didn’t buy. Nothing that has aired shows Nick Newman using again. Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) offered in October to be his sponsor.

That’s the man Phyllis gets on Thursday. Back on October 7, she promised to help him and support him “with no judgment.” Now she’s the one standing over him asking questions.

Where Is Matt Clark on Young and the Restless?

Only Nick knows, as far as anyone on screen can tell. He told Phyllis that Matt checked into a facility, but Sharon’s search came up empty, and on October 30 Phyllis asked whether Nick had taken care of Matt for good. Nick has never answered that. There’s no return date for Matt, and Howarth hasn’t announced an exit.

Here’s what makes Thursday different: Phyllis has run this exact play herself. On May 14, she kept an amnesiac Matt in a Club suite booked under her own name and said she had him “on ice.” The next day, Nick offered to get the charges against Phyllis dropped if she handed Matt over to him directly, and by the end of the day Matt was gone from the suite. In May, Phyllis hid Matt and Nick Newman wanted the address. Now the roles have flipped.

Phyllis, Not Sharon, Is the Bigger Threat to Nick’s Secret

My call: Nick doesn’t hand Phyllis an address on Thursday. Matt is the one thing in his life he still controls, and a man who just admitted he’s struggling will hold onto that with both hands. But Phyllis is the bigger danger to his secret. Sharon will be busy holding up his recovery, while Phyllis has already seen Matt vanish on Nick’s watch and has no reason left to be polite.

Our readers are split. One reader on our Facebook post thinks Nick simply took Matt to rehab, because he knows Sharon won’t let it rest if he hurt him. Another thinks Nick has him. And one fan can’t wait to see what the new writers do with Matt and Phyllis.

That last point matters. Wednesday is the first episode from new co-head writers Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor, and Thursday is their second. They chose to open with Nick Newman at his weakest and Matt’s location on the table. Don’t be surprised if Matt resurfaces on their watch, though probably not this week.

Does Nick crack for Phyllis, or keep Matt’s location to himself? Leave your prediction in the comments.

Nick Keeps Matt’s Location Thursday, but Phyllis Leaves With a Lead

Here’s where I land. Nick holds out on Phyllis, but she walks away knowing more than she came in with, because she has told this kind of cover story herself. Keep an eye on the favor he asks of Sharon on Wednesday. Nobody has said what it is, and if it has anything to do with Matt, Phyllis will find out.

Team Sharon says patience gets Nick through this. Team Phyllis says it’s time to stop asking nicely. Pick your side on our Facebook page.
