SALLY SPECTRA KEEPS CHECKING THAT RUBY IS BREATHING, AND WITH BILLY IN LONDON SOMEONE ELSE MAY SEE IT FIRST

TL;DR: Young and the Restless spoilers: Sally Spectra keeps checking that baby Ruby is breathing and is barely sleeping, and Billy is in London. Is the show building a postpartum anxiety story, and who notices first: Audra, Adam or the Abbotts? Nobody on screen has named it yet.

Sally Shows Postpartum Anxiety Signs While Billy Is in London

Sally Spectra is showing what look like postpartum anxiety signs, and Billy Abbott is in London. She told Audra Charles she overthinks every cry, keeps checking that baby Ruby is breathing and is barely sleeping. Is the show building a postpartum anxiety story, and who notices first with Billy away? Our Young and the Restless spoilers for the next two weeks put Audra, Adam and the Abbotts in her path.

In Monday’s episode, Sally broke down to Audra at home. Being responsible for another human felt overwhelming, she watched the baby monitor with Ruby right in front of her, and after losing Ava, the daughter she and Adam lost in 2023, she was terrified something would happen to Ruby. She was even checking work email on maternity leave. Audra told her she can’t protect Ruby from everything, urged her to ask for help and offered to work from Sally’s place so she could rest.

Sally Tells Adam About Ava and Tells Billy She’s Fine

Tuesday’s episode aired early in Canada, and Sally takes Ruby to the Chancellor Park Cafe with her doctor’s okay. Adam Newman turns up, says he feels protective of Ruby and wonders whether it’s safe for her to be outside. Sally tells him the birth stirred up the same feelings for her and that she believes Ava was looking down and helped make it happen. Alone later, Adam flashes back to the day he told Sally they had lost their baby.

Then Billy calls from London. If his mother, Jill, keeps recovering from surgery for 48 hours, he heads home, and Sally assures him she’s fine. So Audra got the tears, Adam got Ava, and Billy got told everything is fine.

Does Sally Spectra Have Postpartum Anxiety on Young and the Restless?

Nobody on the show has used the word, but what Sally Spectra has shown lines up with anxiety, not depression. The federal Office on Women’s Health lists “constant worrying,” “feeling that something bad is going to happen” and “sleep and appetite disturbances” as anxiety signs, and “being overly watchful for dangers or threats to your baby” under postpartum OCD. Sally checks Ruby’s breathing, watches the monitor and barely sleeps. Its depression list includes “lack of interest in the baby” and “withdrawing from friends and family,” and Sally is doing the opposite.

It’s also early. The National Institute of Mental Health says the baby blues bring “feelings of worry, unhappiness, and exhaustion” in the first two weeks, and symptoms lasting longer may mean more. Ruby was born October 20, so Sally is still inside that window. A study of more than 13,000 mothers in England found anxiety after losing a baby can last past a healthy birth, and Courtney Hope said in April that Sally is “gun-shy because of last time” and “feels like it was her fault” Ava died.

If you or someone you love is struggling after a birth, the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline is free, confidential and open 24/7 in English and Spanish: call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262). Postpartum Support International’s HelpLine is 1-800-944-4773, and in a crisis, call or text 988.

Who Could Spot It First: Audra, Adam or the Abbotts

Audra heard it first, but she heard an overwhelmed new mom, and on Wednesday, “Claire sets boundaries with Audra,” so she has her own fight. This week, Sally also brings Ruby to meet the family, and a first-look photo has Jack Abbott, Traci Abbott and Diane Jenkins Abbott who “happily coo over the newest Abbott.” That’s the happy version a new mom puts on for company. Traci is the wild card: she’s back Wednesday, and Beth Maitland, up for a Daytime Emmy on Friday, says “Aunt Traci is who everyone comes to with their problems.”

The one best placed to see it for what it is may be Adam. On Thursday, “Adam pays Sally a surprise visit,” and he carries the same Ava grief. He’s the only one who will find her at home with Ruby, and he was already asking whether Ruby was safe outside. Sally Spectra may find it hardest to hide from the one other parent who lost Ava.

Our Readers Are Betting on Audra to Notice

When we asked on Facebook whether Audra is becoming the supportive friend Sally truly needs, most readers said yes. “Audra was amazing today, she is a good friend,” one wrote, while another answered, “No. I don’t trust her.”

Who do you think notices first, Audra, Adam or Traci? Tell us in the comments.

Sally Shouldn’t Have to Keep Ruby Safe on Her Own

The show is building this scene by scene, and so far it reads as anxiety rooted in Ava, not depression. Whether it becomes a named postpartum story is a question for the next two weeks and for the new co-head writers, whose first episode airs Wednesday, November 11. My prediction: Adam sees it on Thursday, but the person Sally Spectra most needs to tell is Billy.

Here’s hoping someone takes the night shift and lets her sleep. What would you tell Sally right now? Tell us on our Facebook page.
