Is Adam Newman getting too close to Ruby? Of course he is, and that is what makes it so deliciously dangerous. The man helped bring her into the world, and he and Sally Spectra lost their own daughter not too many years ago, so every coo, every burp, and every long stare at that tiny face is doing something to him that nobody can see.

Now imagine the grief doing what grief does to a soap husband. Closer and closer to Ruby, further and further from the little girl he lost, until the loss of baby Ava finally shakes something loose in his head. Does Adam spiral out and decide the baby he delivered belongs to him?

With Billy Abbott away, Adam has the perfect excuse to be at Sally’s door, helping out, being useful, being so very good with the baby. Who would ever think twice?

The Nap That Changes Everything

Picture the shock horror. Sally, running on fumes, finally lets herself rest because Adam is right there, so capable, so calm. She closes her eyes on a living room with a man and a baby in it. She opens them to silence. No Adam. No Ruby. No note, no stroller, no trace.

Her first thought is that they went for a walk. Her second is the one that makes her scream.

A Man With A Jet And Nowhere He Can’t Go

Adam Newman has access to the Newman jet, unlimited funds, and a last name that makes airport staff stand up straighter. We have never seen him truly go off the deep end, which is exactly why the first time would be so terrifying. What if this is the moment he becomes unglued?

What if he looks at Ruby and sees Ava? Not a resemblance. Ava herself, handed back. What if he decides Ruby IS Ava, and in his mind he isn’t stealing a child at all, only bringing his daughter home?

This wouldn’t be a villain twirling a mustache. It would be a father whose heart has been broken for years, and whose mind decides to fix it. That is what makes it so awful.

The Abbotts And The Newmans Race The Clock

The moment Sally realizes, every phone in two families lights up. Billy is on the next flight home. Jack Abbott, Traci Abbott, Ashley Abbott, and Diane Jenkins pour into Sally’s house, because the Abbotts do not lose a baby without a fight.

Over on the Newman side, Victor Newman has the security, the contacts, and the grim determination to find his own son, and Nick Newman already has a suspicion that something in his brother’s head is not right. Who traces the jet? Who reaches Adam Newman first? And what do they find when they do, a kidnapper or a grieving father holding a baby he believes he lost?

Every minute counts, because a man with a jet and a plan can vanish with a child before anyone finishes dialing.
