Sharon Newman Wants Answers, Nick Newman Wants Silence, and Phyllis Summers Wants to Know Why
This Y&R Canadian Day-Ahead opens at Crimson Lights, where the coffee is the least intoxicating thing on the menu. Sharon Newman has done her homework. She has called every clinic and hospital she can think of, and Matt Clark is not in a single one of them. So she asks Nick Newman to come clean about what really happened. His answer is that itโs best if she doesnโt know, and that Matt is gone and out of their lives. Nothing calms a person down quite like being told to stop asking.
Nick thought he and Mariah Copeland had talked Sharon out of the idea of treating Matt. Sharon, however, sees it as the surest route to getting him out of their lives for good. Nick reminds her of everything Matt put her and her family through, and she answers that seeing him no longer traumatizes her. Nick insists it is a terrible idea, so terrible that he got Matt to agree, checked him into a clinic out of state, and made him promise never to be in touch again. Sharon wonders aloud whether Nick packed Matt off to some dungeon the way his father would have. Nick swears that is the whole story, which is exactly how people talk about stories that are not.
From there the conversation stops being about Matt and becomes about who gets to decide. Sharon is tired of the men in her life deciding what she can handle. Nick says he and Matt both want to spare her any more, and Sharon says that is not their call to make. She would have liked a say in his treatment and accuses Nick of not trusting her to understand her own boundaries. Nick knows she wants to be involved, and what scares him is that she does not seem to want this to be over. Sharon points out that vague explanations are all she has gotten, and none of them sound like a man getting help. Nick declares he will never tell her, and right on cue, Phyllis Summers walks in and demands to know why the two of them are talking about Matt. Nick already handed Phyllis the short version of the clinic story, so she arrives with questions of her own. Of all the coffee shops in Genoa City, and of all the possible moments.
Is Nick protecting Sharon or protecting himself, and what happens when Phyllis starts asking questions of her own? Email your theories to amber@soapoperamagazine.com. The more dramatic, the better.

Kyle Abbott Gets Caught With His Hand in the Cookie Bar
Over in London, Billy Abbott joins Cane Ashby and Kyle Abbott at a pub and wonders what exactly his nephew is doing there. Kyle says he had to fly commercial and wanted to drop in on a friend, which is the kind of answer that invites follow-up questions. Billy supplies plenty. Kyle gets defensive, and Billy can see he is hiding something, like a kid who got caught with his hand in the cookie bar. That gets right on Kyleโs nerves. Billy reminds him that he is still on the Jabot board and wants to know what this meeting of his is about.
Cane has heard enough bickering and wants to leave, but Billy tries to keep the peace so the three of them can share one toast to Jill Abbott. They pass around pictures of Ruby, and then Billy mentions that Victoria Newman is in London on business too. It all feels pretty random, and she did not seem very cool when he saw her. Kyle takes off, and Billy and Cane keep drinking and talking. Billy admits things seemed off with his nephew and wonders whether Kyle is up to something that could sabotage Vibrante. Billy is, for the record, getting warmer.

Victoria Newman Has the Worst Possible Dream
Victoria tries to sleep on the couch in the London apartment, but she cannot stop thinking about Kyle. When he comes back, she tells him the bed was too empty, and in her head the evening takes a turn that ends with Billy walking in at the worst possible moment. Candles are noticed. Questions are asked, including how many times this has happened and what her family will say. Victor Newman, for the record, would keel over. Kyle tells Victoria this is all her fault, Billy tells his ex that fate has a mean streak, and Victoria declares the whole thing a mistake.
Then she wakes up. It was a nightmare, and her subconscious clearly has better instincts than she does. Kyle returns for real and pours himself a drink, and Victoria can see he is rattled. He admits he ran into Cane and Billy, and that his uncle seemed to know he is keeping a secret. Kyle suggests they not tempt fate until they reach Paris, and Victoria agrees that makes sense. She fills him in on her nightmare, but she does not want to cool things down. She is tired of playing it safe and does not want the fun to end. โParis it is,โ Kyle agrees, and the making out resumes. Nothing says learning your lesson like a dress rehearsal.

Adam Newman Comes Bearing One Tiny Bootie
At home, Sally Spectra tells baby Ruby all about the loving home and loud family waiting for her. The doorbell brings Adam Newman, who has stopped by with a bootie the two of them left behind at the cafรฉ. The conversation turns to how gassy the baby is, and Adam, who is a surprisingly confident burper, asks if he can try. Sally hesitates, so he reminds her that he delivered the baby. Fair point. After a thorough hand sanitizing, he holds Ruby, burps her, and puts her to sleep. Sally is impressed, and he admits he knows all the moves.
Sally says he and Chelsea Lawson could be parents again someday, and Adam admits that is not likely in the cards. He asks after her family and how the Abbotts canโt get enough of Ruby. When he decides to go, Sally stops him and asks why things have felt so weird between them. There have been a lot of loaded silences. Adam wishes he could explain. He feels like their past is haunting him, and he admits the birth stirred up the loss of their daughter and the loss of Sally too. Itโs overwhelming. Sally tells him Ruby is a new person and this is a new beginning, and that she wants him to share in the joy and be part of Rubyโs life. He says he would be honored to be part of Rubyโs life in any way she and Billy decide, and then he walks out.
