The Young and the Restless
SOMEBODY’S LYING! Did Y&R’s Nick Newman Make Matt Clark Disappear For Good?
Young and the Restless: Nick Newman says Matt Clark is in a clinic, but Sharon Newman cannot find him in any of the ones she called.
NICK NEWMAN WON’T TELL SHARON WHERE MATT CLARK WENT
TL;DR: Nick swears he put Matt Clark in a clinic out of state, but Y&R’s Sharon Newman cannot find him in a single one, and now Phyllis Summers is asking the question nobody wants to say out loud.

A Clinic That Keeps Moving
Nick Newman’s story about Matt Clark has a moving address. First Matt Clark was “safely put away,” checked into the clinic Sharon Newman had lined up. Then Nick told his father he drove Matt Clark to a psychiatric ward himself. Then it was a clinic out of state, with a promise never to be in touch again.
Sharon did what any psychologist would do with a story like that and made phone calls. She tried the clinics and the hospitals, and Matt Clark is not in any of them, including the clinic she arranged. When she pushed, Nick told her it was best if she didn’t know, then declared he would never tell her, a bold sentence to say out loud at Crimson Lights right as Phyllis Summers walks through the door.
Victor Newman asked the question first. “What did you do to him?” is an unusual thing for Victor to ask someone else, since in this family he is usually the one answering it. He also worried that his son might go to extremes to keep Matt Clark away from everyone. So far nobody has told Victor he was right. Nobody has told him he was wrong, either.

The Fixer Theory
Here is where the theory goes off the guardrail. A man who needs a clinic buys a plane ticket. A man who needs a problem handled calls someone who handles problems. Adam Newman has that kind of acquaintance in Riza Thomson, the dangerous old contact he reconnected with when he and Nick went hunting for Matt Clark in Vegas, and the same one who helped, reluctantly, when Matt Clark held Sharon and Noah Newman at gunpoint. Could Nick have made one phone call instead of one drive?
Adam is the wrinkle. He asked Nick outright whether Matt Clark was in a nuthouse somewhere and said he hopes the man rots, which is either someone who has no idea or a Newman who has been lying since the cradle. In that family, we are not ruling out the second option.

Two Women, One Corner Booth
The twist nobody ordered is that the investigation is now being run out of a corner booth by Sharon and Phyllis, two women who each share children with Nick Newman and agree on almost nothing else. Phyllis asks her point blank whether she thinks Nick killed him. Sharon refuses to go there, but she does say Nick may have taken matters into his own hands, which is a long walk from refusing to go there.
Phyllis is not an impartial witness, either. She and Matt Clark had their own relationship, and she admits she is terrified of getting pulled back in because his leaving hurt. Sharon wants them to pressure Nick together, and Phyllis doesn’t think it will work.

Victor Taught Him Everything
Sharon herself wondered whether Nick packed Matt Clark off to some dungeon “like his father would do.” She is not wrong about the family curriculum. Victor once stranded Jack Abbott on a yacht with Patty Williams to pressure Phyllis into handing back Newman Enterprises. Nick Newman has been through rehab, rebuilt himself, and says he picked up plenty of tools there, but making problems disappear is the family business, and nobody ever told Nick he was allowed to quit.
Then again, Matt Clark has a habit of returning. He has been captured, believed dead, and stripped of his memory, and he has come back from every one of them. Could the man who always returns have decided to stay gone this time and let Nick take the heat?

Who Cracks First?
Nick Newman has a story that keeps changing, Sharon has a phone full of dead ends, and Phyllis has a booth and a grudge. Does Nick finally say where Matt Clark went, or does he let two women keep guessing? And if somebody finally knocks on the right door, who is brave enough to be the first one through it?
