Hayley Lawson sat at Uptown, joking on a call that the real prize in her divorce was Bill Hamilton’s bank account, which was the most honest thing anyone had said about her pregnancy so far. Then she drifted into the movie playing behind her eyes. In it, she sauntered into his office and parked the baby with someone else, Bill grumbled about her parenting, and the baby wailed until Hayley recommended a lollipop. Bill cringed down to his shoes, vowed to do anything to take the child off her hands, and she slid over papers selling him his own baby. He was disgusted. He signed. Hayley toasted herself with orange juice, pined for the day she could drink the real stuff again, and slipped into a second reverie where the club rolled out the red carpet.

Dani crashed that one by marching up to demand why Hayley was there, and Hayley announced that she had snapped up Fairmont Crest and was rebranding it Hayleyville, with the Duprees officially unwelcome. Dani clapped a hand over her mouth and fled in horror. Whether that was a fever dream or a live broadcast is anyone’s guess, since both versions suit her perfectly.

Reality showed up with paperwork of its own. Hayley marched into Bill’s office clutching a folder, and he cut her off before she got started: if this baby turned out to be his, she would be the one on the hook for it. Hayley stood there stunned and insisted he could not possibly mean that. He did. Her fantasy had Bill signing on the dotted line, and his actual contribution was a stop sign.

Bill Admits He Hates Going Home

Naomi dropped by Bill’s office, where he wanted to go over a phone call from prosecutors. She sensed something heavier hiding behind it. The file of Smitty’s supposed sit-down with his sources had been corrupted and a fresh copy was on the way, which had Naomi thrilled and thanking him for watching her back. It was a sweet moment and also a gentle reminder that the woman carrying his maybe-baby was about to make his life considerably less lonely whether he liked it or not.

Hayley’s Blackmail Reaches Martin

Ted Richardson and Andre Richardson held court at the club, swapping thoughts on how Martin Richardson could rise above whatever got hurled his way, Smitty’s phony viral clip included, and Andre predicted that Dani would finally stop sprinting to Bill’s rescue. Then a summons arrived from Nicole, and Andre, who has reached the age where every urgent text means he did something, wondered what he was in trouble for this time. Nicole appeared, Andre went off to find his wife, and Nicole reported that Anita was floating after the Articulettes session before getting to the real point. She wanted backup when she explained to Martin why Bill had let Hayley off the hook. Ted argued that Martin was owed a quiet evening, the two of them sparred over all the lying in the family, and Nicole wondered whether Hayley would blab.

Meanwhile, Martin came home with Thai takeout, and Smitty grimaced and confessed that his own dinner plan had been lobster ravioli, a plan the kitchen had clearly not survived. Smitty fretted that his job was a burden on his husband, Martin talked him down, and they settled in for a movie. Martin planted kisses along Smitty’s neck, a Devil Wears Prada confession floated out, and the two giggled their way back into making out until Smitty had Martin’s shirt halfway off. That was the moment the Richardson parents showed up. Martin rebuttoned in record time, and Nicole wasted no time laying out Hayley’s blackmail.

Smitty had suspected they were holding something back. Ted explained that they wanted Martin focused on winning, and Martin pointed out that this was a rotten prize for winning. Nicole feared Hayley would turn up demanding cash, and the pair assured the men that Hayley was on a short lead, though Nicole knew better than anyone that people on leashes slip them. After the parents left, the husbands snuggled, vowed not to let the blackmail run their lives, and agreed to resume intimacy. It was painfully obvious that Martin was not there yet.

Ted and Nicole later struck a pact at the club to keep each other informed about family matters, since both had been burned by that before. It was a reasonable deal from two people whose marriage ended over a secret.

Dani Stops Playing Middleman

Outside, Andre overheard Dani on the phone, loudly promising to storm over and chew out “him.” He presumed she meant Bill, but she explained that tempers had flared during the photo shoot. Andre apologized for doubting her, and Dani, short one photographer, asked if he would step in. He was thrilled to. Credit where it is due: the man predicted she would not go running to Bill, and she went running to him instead.

Over in the dining room, Dani and Naomi had their own heart-to-heart about Bill’s loneliness. Dani swore she would always lend an ear to her kid, but she could no longer stay caught between Bill and everything he had going on. After years as the family’s designated Bill translator, that was a resignation worth framing.
