JACK BLAMES PATTY FOR A MISSING DIANE JENKINS, BUT THE TRUTH IS DEVASTATING

TL;DR: On the Friday, May 29 episode of Y&R, Kyle warns his father Jack that Diane has vanished without a trace, and a guilt-ridden Jack instantly blames Patty for the disappearance, even as clues hint Diane may be hiding on her own after her heartfelt voicemail to Jack went unanswered.

Why Is Diane Missing on Y&R?

Yes, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) has dropped completely off the map, and her own son is the first one to panic. Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) realizes his mother has been unreachable for far longer than makes any sense, and what he turns up shakes him. Her bed has not been slept in. She has not shown her face at Jabot in two full days. For a woman as image-conscious and routine-bound as Diane, none of that adds up, and Kyle is not about to shrug it off as nothing.

Kyle takes his fear straight to his father, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), with a blunt warning that something is very wrong. And Jack, already drowning in guilt over the way he blew up his own marriage, jumps to the darkest conclusion he can think of.

Does Jack Think Patty Took Diane?

It sure looks that way. Spoilers hint that Jack points the finger squarely at Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk), the very woman who detonated his marriage in the first place. Patty drugged Jack aboard a yacht earlier this year and climbed into his bed, and it was that ugly betrayal that sent Diane fleeing to the Genoa City Athletic Club. So the second his wife disappears, Jack‘s mind races to the unstable ex who has been circling him for months.

Could Jack be right? Given Patty‘s history, nobody could blame him for fearing the worst. This is a woman who once shot Jack three times and even married him back in the 1980s before it all came crashing down. She has spent this entire return run proving she will torch anyone who gets in her way. But here is where it gets good, because the disappearance of Diane Jenkins may not be a kidnapping at all.

Is Diane Hiding From Jack on Purpose?

It is very possible. The twist fans are buzzing about is that Diane could be hiding entirely on her own. Remember, Diane left Jack a raw, heartfelt voicemail pouring out her pain and her hope that the two of them might still find a way back to each other. Jack never answered it. He never even heard it.

Reading between the lines, a wounded Diane Jenkins could easily believe her husband listened to her most vulnerable confession and chose stone-cold silence. If she is convinced Jack is freezing her out, slipping away somewhere quiet to nurse that heartbreak would be completely in character. The cruel irony? Jack could be tearing the whole city apart hunting a kidnapper who does not exist, while his wife is simply hiding from a man she believes stopped caring.

What’s Next for Diane and Jack?

Here is where this could explode. Could this mean Jack and Patty are barreling toward a face-off that finally drags every one of her secrets into the light? It has all the makings of a classic Genoa City showdown. Don’t be surprised if Jack‘s wild accusations push Patty to do something genuinely dangerous just to prove her point or to shift the blame onto someone else.

And if these writers stay true to form, the moment Jack finally hears that voicemail will absolutely gut him. Something tells me the gulf between what Diane needed and the silence she got is about to decide whether this marriage survives at all. Meanwhile, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) has her own reckoning with Patty brewing, ready to school her old enemy with a brutal trip down memory lane. When Diane Jenkins finally resurfaces, and she will, the fallout could scorch everyone left standing.
