The Call That Changed Everything

Lily Winters was sitting at Society when Malcolm Winters called. She had been introducing Holden Novak to Devon Hamilton and Nate Hastings as their half brother, trying to hold her family together while simultaneously trying to save her father’s life. And then the phone rang and the last two names on the donor list came back negative.

Neither Mattie nor Charlie is a match.

Lily hung up and collapsed. The woman who has been holding everyone else together since Malcolm came home, who sat with Traci and confessed she feels guilty for not being able to save Neil and now cannot save Malcolm either, who pushed to get the twins tested in LA, who held Malcolm’s hand at the GCAC and promised him he would beat this, finally broke. Because there is nobody left to test.

Holden is not a match. Lily cannot donate because of her past cancer treatments. Mattie and Charlie are not matches. The Winters family has exhausted every biological option and Malcolm is still sick.

Lily Told Devon and Nate the Truth

Before the call came, Lily Winters sat Holden, Devon, and Nate down at Society and told them the truth. Malcolm is Holden’s biological father. They are half siblings.

Devon was skeptical immediately. He pointed out that the timing seemed very coincidental, and when Holden stepped away to give them space, Devon reminded Lily that Tucker is family too, which says everything about how Devon feels about men who show up in their orbit claiming blood ties.

Nate was more measured. He said time is not infinite, a lesson he learned losing Damian. But Devon’s guard is up and Lily knows it.

Before that conversation, Lily and Holden had their own moment at Society. Holden admitted he does not resent or blame Malcolm. His mother is another story. He talked about growing up as the kid with a dead dad, hearing stories about a man who was supposedly gone, pretending his father was still alive. His sister told him Malcolm is a free spirit, an eternal optimist, and a good man. But Holden said they will never get back what they lost. That will never change.

Lily Winters told him they should tell Devon and Nate as soon as possible. She called them. They came. And then Malcolm called with the news that emptied the room of hope.

Stephanie and Nate Reconnect

Stephanie Simmons ran into Nate at the GCAC and lit up. She has not seen him since he was a kid, and she and his mother Olivia mostly talk about their sons. When she asked if Nate knew Holden, Nate nearly choked on his drink and opened the menu.

They talked about his career change from medicine, his struggles with losing patients, and Stephanie spoke about the wonders of medicine and how magical they can be. It was warm and bittersweet, a conversation between a woman trying to save her son’s father and a man who gave up the profession that might have helped her do it.

Billy and Sally Face the Pregnancy Together

The second test came back positive. Sally Spectra is pregnant.

Billy Abbott served her PBJ while they waited. When the result confirmed it, Sally admitted she feels alone and asked Billy to be in this with her. She told him the reason she did not tell him immediately was because she was thinking of Ava. She knows what he went through with Delia and was worried they could not face something like that again.

They talked about the children they lost. Billy said he hopes Delia is proud of Sally. Sally said she lost herself when she lost her baby and she is not sure she can face it again. She does not know what happens if she falls in love with this child.

Billy told her she could have the chance to do everything right, even if she fumbles once in a while. She asked if they could move forward as a team. “Always,” he said.

Neither of Malcolm’s grandchildren is a match and the donor pool is empty. Lily Winters is out of family options. Who steps up next? Sound off below!
