ANITA DUPREE TELLS TRACY AND SHARON HER BIG NEWS OCTOBER 28 BEFORE DEVON AND LILY JOIN THE ARTICULETTES IN THE STUDIO NOVEMBER 4

TL;DR: Anita shares big news with Tracy and Sharon on October 28, and the Articulettes’ new album carries the voice of Barbara, the friend Anita blames herself for losing. Devon and Lily Winters arrive November 4 for the sessions. Here is the history behind the tribute.

The New Record Has Barbara’s Voice on It

The Articulettes album on Beyond the Gates is finally moving, and it was built for Barbara from the start. Anita Dupree gets ready to take an exciting step in her career on Tuesday, October 27, then shares big news with her fellow Articulettes, Tracy Tyler and Sharon Winger, on Wednesday, October 28. The latest word is that the trio is heading back into the studio for an album that pays homage to Barbara, the original Articulette.

On Wednesday, November 4, Devon Winters (Bryton James) comes back to Fairmont Crest as the producer working with the Articulettes on the new album. His sister, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), tags along as a fan of the group, especially Anita, on Khalil’s first visit and James’s third. The Beyond the Gates spoilers add that the Duprees and the Winters siblings share memories of Neil Winters, a tribute to the late Kristoff St. John, which James calls “an incredible gesture.”

Nobody has said outright that Wednesday’s news is the album, so tying them together is our read, not a fact. But Anita’s big news for Tracy and Sharon and a studio date with Devon one week later make a very tidy pair.

Who Barbara Was to the Articulettes

Barbara Mitchell was never a footnote. On June 4, 2025, Anita told Vernon Dupree that Barbara was the girl who started the group and gave it its name. “Sisters forever,” Anita said, “and then we met Dante.” Their manager, Dante Green, cast Barbara aside, and Anita went along with it to protect her own shot at stardom.

Barbara later took her own life. The letter she left says Dante called her voice “too classless and ghetto,” and it ends with “And that is on you.” Anita has carried that line ever since. “I killed her, Vernon,” she said the day she finally told him, and she admitted she had quietly sent money to Barbara’s family without ever putting her name on it.

Vernon told her she was not responsible, and he said it again in September, reminding her they were teenagers who could not stand up to Dante. Whether Anita believes him is another story.

The Tribute Was Anita’s Idea All Along

Here is what everyone forgets. When Devon first came to town on August 11, 2025, he offered Anita a solo jazz album that she would co-executive produce with him. She turned him down to put her family first. Then she pitched him something else: an Articulettes re-release with Barbara’s vocals pulled from old demo tapes.

A year later the plan grew. On August 5, 2026, Anita Dupree set out to re-record the group’s classics with Tracy and Sharon and fold in Barbara’s archived vocals, with Devon producing. The Devon and Lily crossover is that same record finally getting its day in the studio.

Is the New Articulettes Album a Tribute to Barbara on Beyond the Gates?

Yes, in every way that counts. Barbara’s archived vocals have been part of the plan since August, and the newest preview says the album will pay homage to her. What it cannot do is happen without one woman’s yes, and that woman is Barbara’s daughter.

Leslie Thomas learned on August 15, 2025 that Barbara was her birth mother, and she is Barbara’s heir. The contract needs her permission to use Barbara’s voice, so on September 8 she won a producer credit on the condition that she sits quietly in the sessions. On September 16 she rescheduled the recording behind everyone’s back, saying she wants Eva Thomas to be proud of her grandmother being on the album. Leslie blames the Duprees for losing her mother, and now she is a producer on the record that honors Barbara.

Anita Dupree’s Confession Is Waiting in That Studio

The same day Anita shares her news, Leslie’s offer to throw Eva a party dredges up some very bad memories. If I know these writers, a party for Barbara’s granddaughter and a record built on Barbara’s voice do not land in the same episode by accident.

So does honoring Barbara push Anita to tell Tracy, Sharon or Leslie what she told Vernon? Nothing says so yet. But a tribute album invites questions about why Barbara left the group, and Anita’s version of that story has always been the guilty one. Head writer Michele Val Jean has also promised that the Articulettes’ path “is going to lead back to” Dante, though she says his arrival is “not imminent.”

Should Anita tell Leslie the whole truth before the first note is recorded? Tell us in the comments.

Every studio date and party invitation is mapped out in our full two-week Beyond the Gates preview.

Barbara’s Voice Is the Real Star of This Record

Our take: this album is the payoff and the danger at the same time. Anita Dupree gets the comeback she has chased since the reunion concert, and Devon gets to honor his father’s world, but every note of Barbara’s voice reminds the room why she is not in it.

Will the tribute finally bring Anita peace, or drag her confession into the open in front of Leslie? Tell us which way you see it on our Facebook page.
