SOM Soap Character Index
Who readers actually click on. Each line is a character’s share of all the soap stories people read on Soap Opera Magazine, tracked month by month since late 2023 from our own page-view data.
The leaderboard
How it works
We count Google Analytics page views for every Soap Opera Magazine article whose headline names the character and their show, month by month. A character’s score is their slice of all page views for soap articles: of every soap story read, what share was about them. Pick a single soap and the share is measured against that show’s articles only.
Lines use a three-month average so one viral week does not swamp the trend. An article that names two characters counts for both, so shares can add up to more than 100.
What it is not
This measures what readers click on, not how often we write about someone or how much screen time they get. A character can lead the index on one big storyline. Beyond the Gates premiered in February 2025, so it has no earlier data.
The ten characters tracked per show are the core cast; we add newcomers when their storylines take off.
