Kristen DiMera makes a confession to Lani Price Grant on Tuesday, October 27, and the timing could not be worse for either woman. The Days of Our Lives spoilers put Kristen across from her best friend just as Lani has a badge again. Two days later, on Thursday, October 29, Lani celebrates her return to the police force, and her husband, Eli Grant, is back in town for it.

Nobody is saying what Kristen confesses. But this is the woman who struck Sophia Choi on May 1 and staged it to look like Sophia took her own life, and Sophia is back in Salem now. Confessing anything to a cop, even a cop who is your best friend, is either very brave or very careless. Kristen has never been careless.

As our daily recaps covered, the comeback moved fast. On October 14, Lani told Eli the governor had turned her pardon down, and she worried about how to explain her past to their twins. Then Paulina Price called with the news that Lani is getting her pardon after all.

On Friday, October 16, Paulina told her the pardon had come through. Jada Hunter offered Lani her old job at the police station, Lani said yes, and Jada made her Shawn Brady‘s new partner. The wider soap rumor mill has been guessing about her first case ever since.

Her New Partner Is a Man She Once Dated

Here is the history nobody else is mentioning. Years ago, long before Eli, Lani Price Grant dated Shawn, and it ended when he went back to Belle. Now they share a squad car, and his first big headache of the week is EJ DiMera. On Monday, Shawn questions EJ about the attack on Steve, with no evidence to go on.

Lani’s old life also ties her to Kristen in ways no commissioner would love. The two hid out in a European convent together after Lani accidentally shot Stefan, and Lani once helped Kristen slip out of custody. When they reunited in April, Kristen called her a best friend and they picked right back up.

That timing is the whole story for Kristen. By Tuesday, Lani is not a friend who used to be a cop. She is a working officer two days away from a station house celebration with her mother, her father, her boss and her partner in the room.

My gut tells me Kristen did not pick Lani by accident. Who else in Salem would hear a DiMera confession and think twice before calling it in? If the secret touches Sophia, Rachel or EJ, Lani Price Grant has a choice to make before anyone cuts the cake on Thursday.

EJ is the wildcard. Shawn is already circling him over Steve, and a preview shows EJ coming home with blood on his shirt cuff. If I know these writers, Lani’s first week back lands her between her partner’s case and her best friend’s secret. Could those turn out to be the same story? Nothing confirms that yet.

Then on Friday, Kristen ties up some loose ends. Read that line twice. Whatever she told Lani on Tuesday, Kristen is still moving pieces three days later, and Lani will be wearing the badge while she does it.
